What is OMT?
Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) is a hands-on approach utilized by Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (DOs) to assess, diagnose, and treat impairments affecting the musculoskeletal, lymphatic, and nervous systems. Rooted in the core principles of osteopathic medicine, OMT emphasizes a whole-person approach, supporting the body's natural ability to heal itself. DOs recognize that dysfunction or misalignment in the musculoskeletal system can create a cascade of effects throughout the body, impacting overall health and recovery.
OMT is employed to address a wide range of conditions, including joint pain, muscle cramps, sinusitis, headaches, and more. This treatment modality promotes pain relief, enhances mobility, and supports the body's recovery process.
Dr. Thomas is a strong advocate for OMT, prioritizing a comprehensive approach to patient care rather than solely addressing symptoms or relying exclusively on pharmacologic interventions. She focuses on identifying the root cause of discomfort rather than simply treating isolated areas of concern. She understands that mobility and function are not solely dependent on bones but also involve muscles, ligaments, and tendons.
While some may associate OMT with spinal manipulations or the "crack and pop" method, Dr.
Thomas emphasizes safe, effective, and long-term treatment strategies that support overall musculoskeletal health. OMT is a covered office visit by most all insurances as well.
